A piece of furniture with a front measuring approximately 1.20 m, placed at a forty-five-degree angle in a right corner, rests on roughly 85 cm of each wall, and the middle of its front is about 60 cm from the corner. Compare this to a straight piece of furniture of the same length placed against a wall: the latter only takes up its depth, about forty centimeters, and it doesn&#039;t take up any space because a wall serves no other purpose than to support furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference isn&#039;t in the centimeters, it&#039;s in <em>Or<\/em> They are located. The corner unit extends into the only area the eye can fully traverse: the diagonal of the living room. It is this line that gives a room its impression of depth, and it is this line that the corner of the unit interrupts. In a large living room, no one notices it. In a room of less than fifteen square meters, the room suddenly appears closed off at one corner, and it&#039;s not always clear why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>A corner piece of furniture does not create space. A screen placed at an angle faces the bisector of the room, that is, the center. If your sofa is against a wall\u2014which is the case in the vast majority of living rooms\u2014you don&#039;t see it head-on: you view it at a three-quarter angle, and the person sitting at the end of the sofa even more so. A flat screen doesn&#039;t handle this very well: the colors wash out and the contrast collapses as soon as you move away from the center line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The practical consequence is simple: a corner screen requires either a <strong>sofa itself at an angle<\/strong> or in an L-shape, facing the corner, or a tiltable screen. If you don&#039;t want to move either, the angle will compromise your comfort every evening. There are rooms where it&#039;s frankly the best decision, and they have one thing in common: in these rooms, no wall can accommodate the screen without creating a bigger problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The four-opening living room<\/strong> : two doors, a window, a bay window. Four solutions address the same problem: an adjustable wall mount, a classic low cabinet placed at an angle, a custom-made bench designed for the corner, and a deep console table. Each solves a different constraint, and none solves everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The adjustable wall bracket: the corner without the furniture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the most radical and most often overlooked solution. An articulated arm fixed in the corner\u2014or on one of the two walls, very close to the corner\u2014leaves the screen folded flat when not in use, and allows it to be opened towards the sofa when you want to watch. The viewing angle becomes adjustable, something no piece of furniture can do. And the floor remains completely free: nothing protrudes diagonally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The downside is twofold. First, there&#039;s no more storage space: the set-top box, console, and soundbar have to find another home, often a simple low shelf. Second, and this is the crucial point, an offset arm exerts significant leverage on its anchor point, and this force depends entirely on the type of wall\u2014concrete, hollow brick, plasterboard, stud wall, or insulated lining. This isn&#039;t something you can improvise: have the fixing method determined by a building professional, who will be able to assess the substrate before drilling. The triangular space behind it isn&#039;t wasted: it&#039;s precisely where the cables run and the power strip is hidden, a space that closed corner cabinets cost you in terms of volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This tip also works for a piece of furniture you already own. A tape measure in your own home should always be the final decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the usable length for a corner unit?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#039;s the most common disappointment, and it&#039;s purely geometric. A corner unit has a trapezoidal top: deep in the middle, it narrows towards both ends.
